SUITABILITY: While he's on the young side of the minimum age requirement, Junpei has already experienced so much negativity from the world that he can't really be described as innocent. When compared to things like being violently bullied to the point of dropping out of school and having his soul painfully reshaped resulting in his own death, a sex casino might prove a challenge for his antisocial leanings but not worse than what he's been through.

HISTORY: Junpei was the only child of a single mother, his father having left the picture at some point in his childhood. They lived together in Kanagawa prefecture, where Junpei was by all accounts a fairly happy child. Along the way he gained a passion for movies, especially those of the horror genre, and loved dissecting them at length. In high school this led to him forming an after school movie club where he was joined by a few like-minded friends.

One day a group of bullies, led by a guy named Shota, decided that they wanted the club room for themselves. While the other movie club members fled, Junpei stopped to try and pick up a DVD that Shota was standing on, coldly insisting he move his foot. It was a clear act of defiance, and after shutting the door they proceeded to violently assault Junpei. From then on the group would regularly find reasons to torment the boy, and the people he'd thought were his friends started to avoid him entirely so as not to meet the same fate. Sometimes it was the standard use of fists or feet to beat him up, other times it was feeding him a cockroach, or burning him with cigarettes and leaving a ring of scars on his forehead. Teachers either were oblivious or pretended not to notice. While he kept the intensity of his troubles secret to his mother, she could tell he was miserable and told him it was fine for him to drop out of school. In her mind school was just 'a small aquarium' and someday in the wider world Junpei would find an aquarium where he fit in. From then on Junpei stopped going to class, spending most days seeing movies at his favorite cinema and trying to ignore the rest of the world. He had decided that hating humanity wasn't the ideal, because that still meant wasting emotion on them. Instead, he would aim for being indifferent.

During one of these movie outings the group that harassed him in school were a few rows in front of him, carrying on loudly and making it impossible to watch the film. Just as he was growing extremely frustrated a mysterious figure appeared behind the trio and with a touch turned them into disfigured abominations. While he was terrified, Junpei was also fascinated, and followed the mysterious figure into an alleyway. There he learned the person wasn't a human at all, but a curse named Mahito born of human hatred. He asked Mahito if he could teach him to do what he'd done to the bullies in the theater, and the curse led him down to the sewers to talk. Mahito had the ability to reshape the human soul, which in turn would warp the body as well. Humans didn't tend to survive very long when transfigured. While he couldn't teach Junpei that technique, he did transfigure his brain so that he could harness cursed energy, and in turn summon a shikigami. With the shikigami jellyfish Moon Dregs he finally had a form of protection against the cruelty of the world, and Mahito encouraged him to do whatever he wanted in life.

It seemed that Junpei was headed down a dark path with the guidance of the curse, when another teenager he'd never met before showed up at his house one day. The boy was named Yuuji, and he seemed very eager to learn as much as he could about Junpei and ask him if he'd seen what had happened that day at the theater. At first Junpei was reluctant to talk much, but when Yuuji brought up a recent schlocky horror movie he'd seen out of the blue it was impossible for him to resist sharing his opinion. This led to talking about more movies, and soon Junpei's mother came along and invited Junpei's new 'friend' to dinner. Yuuji's friendly and bright personality quickly won both mother and son over, leading to a conversation between the two boys about more serious topics once Junpei's mother was asleep. Junpei had learned Yuuji was a jujutsu sorcerer, and asked if he had ever killed anyone. Yuuji's answer that he didn't like the idea of killing as he feared it would cheapen the value of a life for him managed to make Junpei reconsider if he himself could do it, lest he taint his own soul. In truth, Mahito was merely planning to use Junpei as bait to lure out Yuuji so as to get access to the 'king of curses' residing inside the boy. Part of this plan involved orchestrating the death of Junpei's mother and convincing him that the culprit had been the one bully that had not been at the theater that night - Shota. The agony and anger over his mother's death was so overwhelming that Junpei went to his school for revenge. Using Moon Dregs he caused the staff and students to black out, leaving only Shota awake to face his wrath.

Before he could kill Shota, Junpei was interrupted by the sudden appearance of a confused Yuuji. The two had a brief scuffle, but Yuuji managed to get the other to stop long enough to explain what had happened. Through his tenderness and empathy he was nearly able to calm Junpei down entirely when Mahito showed up. After mocking Junpei for his foolishness, Mahito used his ability to transfigure his soul before Yuuji can stop him. A few seconds after, Junpei collapses to the ground, dead.

ABILITIES:
Moon Dregs - The shikigami made of cursed energy that Junpei is capable of summoning with his mind. It takes the form of a neon blue and yellow moon jellyfish that moves by bobbing through the air like water. It only acts on commands from Junpei, and can vary in size from that of an actual jellyfish to as big as a pickup truck. It has the capability of using its stingers to cause physical damage, but they can also inject a poison or cause paralysis. When a victim is poisoned marks that match the cigarette burns on Junpei's head will start to appear over their body. I would prefer his ability to summon Moon Dregs in anything but a harmless small form be capped, at least early on.

VICES:
RECKLESS - Junpei wasn't one to be intimidated by those that outsized and outclassed him, even before he gained his shikigami. The whole situation with the movie club was the result of him refusing to back down even when it was clear he had no hope of winning. There's another incident where a girl claims he was ogling her breasts in order to get the bullies to beat him up for her own entertainment, and Junpei makes the situation worse for himself by telling the girl she's not as cute as she thinks she is and the guys just hope if they impress her she'll have sex with them. Even though the bullies admit this is true, they just up the intensity of their beating.

Just following a dangerous stranger into an alleyway is another example of this, even if it took much longer for the consequences of that decision to hurt him.

SUSCEPTIBLE- While Junpei considers himself smarter than his peers and probably most adults in the world, the truth is he is incredibly easy to manipulate thanks to his inherent loneliness. Both Mahito and Yuuji manage to influence his trajectory in different ways after only a short time of knowing him by simply making him feel seen and important. He wants to belong, no matter what denial he's in thanks to his bruised heart. It's easier to tell himself that humans are by nature awful to save himself from being hurt again. Junpei's character arc hinges on the fact that he's close to teetering one way or the other, and the great tragedy is that he dies right before he could have been saved.

VIRTUES:
REDEEMABLE- The very thing that makes Junpei in danger of falling into the darkness is what makes him not a lost cause. Through glimpses of the happy, engaged person he was when the movie club was together and when discussing horror films with Yuuji we see the person Junpei could have been if the world hadn't given him a raw deal. The core is not rotten, and has the potential to blossom into something good if only he has positive influences in his life. He loves his mother dearly, and values her comfort over his own, showing he is fully capable of selflessness and affection. Murder only came to his mind when he thought she'd been killed, and the only target is her supposed killer while the rest of the school is essentially put to sleep. This shows he still had some boundaries he wouldn't cross, even in his darkest moment.

HOBBYIST- The way that Yuuji gets Junpei to open up more with him is through discussing movies. It's through the escape of this medium that Junpei is able to distract himself from his troubles, and the typically morose boy lights up whenever he gets to ramble about his interest. While he claims to not want to connect with others, it's clear that before things got really dicey that he actually loved being able to share his passion. He mentions viewing movies while they're still in the theater multiple times, likely so that he can catch anything he may have missed on previous viewings.

SUIT REQUESTS:
Spades - The connection to soul is my main reason for picking Spades first. There's a lot of discussion between Mahito and Junpei on the worth of a human soul. Mahito tries to ease Junpei into the idea of killing by claiming the soul is more like a mechanical thing than anything spiritual. Considering the suit also involves dark desires, it seems a perfect fit for a boy who's been tempted by them so heavily to the point it costs him his life. The Junpei of Golden Peacock would find himself in great conflict; having a fear of intimacy because getting close to someone might cause him to get hurt again while also growing increasingly alarmed when the dark desires start popping up as a result of his avoidance.

Clubs- Clubs is my second choice because Junpei is a character who lives in his own mind A LOT. Avoiding people means it's just him and his thoughts most of the time, and overthinking leads him to miss the very obvious danger signs in someone like Mahito. It is literally his brain that the curse reshapes to give him the ability to summon Moon Dregs. Junpei also ironically, as previously mentioned, thinks he's smarter than most people. The magnification of recklessness would also be especially bad for someone like Junpei whose stubbornness already gets him into trouble. So it would be a fun aspect to work with!
RANK REQUESTS: I have no preference and enjoy the idea of being surprised.
