[Just around midnight, the tiny, flaily, clingy little version of Natsume, wearing an oversized t-shirt of big!Choso's disappears in a puff of stardust. In his place is Natsume -- seventeen, still sort of swimming in the big shirt, covered in glittery stardust.
After a moment he rolls over, still asleep, and instinctively cuddles up against the warm, sleeping form of Junpei, his soft purring rising to a blissful fever pitch.
[ At first, Junpei doesn't register the oddity of what's happening. His body still remembers what it feels like to have teenage Natsume snuggling up to him, and his body relaxes at both the warmth and the vibration of the purring.
Then, as his mind starts to wake up from its haze, there's a sudden realization. In an instant he's wide awake, rolling over to face the other boy with a tingling excitement rising through him. When his eyes confirm what his body had felt, the intensity of his joy overwhelms him and he's wrapping his arms tightly around his boyfriend - his boyfriend, it still makes him dizzy with happiness to think of that - and hugging him perhaps a little too tight.
The sobs come soon after, first signaled by little trembles, then forming into loud, gasping sounds and tears streaming hotly down his cheeks. ]
It's you ... it's the ... the current you ... N-Natsume!
[ Junpei blinks tiredly as he hears his relic vibrate over on the nightstand. It’s the pattern he’d set for Kyle, so instead of ignoring it he gingerly untangles himself from the slumbering forms he’s snuggled up with, carefully getting out of bed.
He winces as his feet touch the ground and he realizes how sore he is. Shaking it off he grabs his phone and pads out into the living room, blinking in confusion at the message. ]
[ Sunny is Japanese, but an American citizen. So around this time of year, he reflects on the things he is grateful for. He's not at home this year around, but instead he's found himself here where he's made a bunch of friends. A bunch of friends who have already helped him through many obstacles and he still isn't quite sure why.
If you've ever wondered what your HEADSPACE version of yourself is (as in, how Sunny sees you in his mind), perhaps this gift will give you an idea.
[ Midday on Thursday, there's a knock at Junpei's door. If he opens it, and looks down, he'll see an odd-colored Bulbasaur standing by a little basket. Once the door is open, the Pokemon chirps a chipper greeting, then turns to go. Tucked inside the basket are a number of Tupperware containers, filled with all sorts of vegan versions of traditional Thanksgiving dishes— cranberry sauce, stuffing, mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy, sweet potato casserole— alongside a handwritten note. ]
Happy Turkey Day (sans the turkey), from your pal Henry! (I know you guys are Japanese, but over in America, today is a day to celebrate the people and things we're grateful for.)
[ Steve takes the anonymous portion of this gift-giving thing so seriously that he gets one of those big fox spirits to drop off a gift for Junpei.
Enclosed is a projector meant to fit a relic, doubtless purchased from somewhere in Epiphany. It has a real eighties feel to it, and there's some badly-photoshopped kids enjoying it on the box. The picture quality isn't amazing, but could fill up enough of a wall to watch with a few friends.
Alongside this gift, which is wrapped up with brown paper and hand-painted illustrations of ghosts wearing santa hats, is a matching hand-knit stocking filled with a large container of unpopped popcorn and several small spice mixes, along with a card that simply reads "- for Junpei, from your Secret Snowflake." ]
[ Junpei is absolutely blown away by the gift, nerdy enough to appreciate the beauty in a projector. There's much excited explaining to his boyfriends about how cool the object is, and he absolutely uses it that very evening.
He looks over the card, trying to see if he can gleam any hint from the signature who his Secret Snowflake is.
In the end of course he doesn't recognize the writing, but he puts the card on the refrigerator in his burrow. ]
[The best way to perfect a skill is to practice again and again, right? Therefore Natsume has taken to transforming into his large, sleek, foxlike dragon form whenever he's out and about and wishes to get somewhere faster. There's something exhilarating and freeing about soaring through the air, a long, sleek, furry shape against the clear sky. He wonders sometimes what the citizens of Folkmore think, looking up at him.
But mostly, he cares about what particular people think of him: Choso and Junpei, wanting them to be amazed, enchanted, as much as he is by each of their forms. This is why, as he glides down by their Burrow, he's already calling out:]
[ Junpei is confused at being called for, opening the door a minute or two later and giving a little gasp.
Realizing quickly it’s Natsume he relaxes, though his eyes are still wide at the sheer size of him in this form.
It sends a weird sensation through him, taking their size difference into account. It sets off his prey flight response, but in the most thrilling way. ]
Ah … are you warm enough?
[ What a silly question, but thinking is suddenly hard. ]
Since the 1970s it’s been a fairly popular capitalistic scheme by candy companies that has infected generations of girls into believing both that they need to buy chocolate for every male in their classroom or they’re a social failure, and that girls that don’t receive any chocolate are pitiable. It was so successful the had the audacity to make a companion holiday, White Day, in which boys are supposed to give back chocolate to every girl that gave it to them a month later.
[ No bias here! ]
